A growing metro deserves a connected future.
Transit in Maricopa County hasn’t lived up to its potential. Construction costs are among the
highest in the world. Buses and trains run infrequently. Riders are left waiting—or left behind.
But the solution isn’t to abandon transit. The solution is to make it work—for everyone.
Smarter transit means:
Better value
Recent light rail extensions cost over $200 million per mile—several times more than global best practices. We can do better
More frequent service
Nobody should wait 20 minutes for a train during rush hour. High-ridership bus lines should run every 5–10 minutes.
Safe, complete streets
Biking and walking should be real, safe options—not afterthoughts.
But it’s not just about commuting. It’s about connection, in every sense of the word.
As Arizona’s population ages, more residents will face the day when they can’t drive. Without good transit, they become isolated in their homes—cut off from grocery stores, doctors, community centers, and each other. That isolation leads to physical and emotional decline.
Good transportation policy supports independence, dignity, and well-being at every stage of life. If we care about affordability, health, climate, and opportunity—transit is part of the solution. It’s time to build a system that reflects the region we are becoming—not the one we used to be.
